This project comprises five walking trails, with a Yellow Bow on each of the 12-14 trees identified in a trail. Follow the walks using the maps below, or check out a complete map of all the trees on iNaturalist.

Please note that some of the bows may have been removed since the project began a few years ago. We encourage you to enjoy your walk and take the time to appreciate the trees along the way.

The Banyan Tree

While on a family caravan holiday to NQ in 1963 a St Lucia resident was given a 1.2m banyan tree cutting. It journeyed home on the back of the caravan and was planted soon after in Baty Street. Sixty years on it is a street feature thanks to its beautiful canopy and unusual shape.

Many trees have been disappearing from our neighbourhood in recent years, largely due to increasing development and urban growth. As more houses and roads are built, green spaces are being cleared, often without enough thought given to the long-term environmental impact. This loss of vegetation affects local wildlife, increases heat in built-up areas, and takes away the natural charm that makes our community special. By raising awareness and encouraging greener planning choices, we can help protect what’s left, restore our local environment, and work towards a more sustainable future.
